IntelliOne wins development funding
Atlanta-based IntelliOne Technologies Corp. has raised US$14.5 million to accelerate its growth both in the US and abroad.
The traffic information company’s software monitors the movement of cell phones in moving vehicles and measures their speed to map traffic flow and travel times. Chief executive Ronald Herman says the method is far cheaper than collecting traffic data using conventional sensors or cameras.
In early 2009, IntelliOne will offer location-based services to cell phones, even those without GPS. It will provide driving directions and real-time rerouting, and allow subscribers to search for the lowest fuel prices or the best routes based on real-time information.
IntelliOne markets its service to wireless carriers, with whom it has revenue-sharing agreements. Herman says the company is talking with AT&T and T-Mobile USA about offering such services in the US and he predicts that a deal will be agreed before the end of this year.
He is also optimistic about reaching similar agreements in up to 18 other countries, including Germany, India and China, following a deal with Canada’s Rogers Wireless agreed earlier this year.
Herman predicts IntelliOne will increase its global workforce to about 120 by the end of next year, boosting revenues from US$3 million this year to about US$20 million in 2009.
