On the eve of the 9/11 anniversary, the major third party candidates were invited to attend what amounted to be the announcement of an emerging Unity Agenda. Ron Paul, Ralph Nader, Cynthia Mckinney, and Chuck Baldwin gathered at the National Press Club determined to unite around four key principles, something unprecedented in third party politics. Leading the charge, Ron Paul stated the “Republican/Democrat duopoly has long ignored”, key principles. The candidates outlined four issues which they could unite behind: Foreign Policy, Civil Liberties, the National Debt, and the Federal Reserve System.
With a looming financial crisis, popular support for the War dwindling, and approval ratings for executive and legislative branches at a historical apex, the beltway crowd should be shaking in their boots with this announcement.
Although it seems embryonic, the potential for a Unity Party or Unity Agenda to emerge from this press conference would seem to be the most viable option for inserting these very real principles into the national dialogue in a meaningful way. Assuming the credibility of the government continues to regress, the next election cycle could see a massive resistance to the two-party system in a manner unseen since anglophile Teddy Roosevelt helped sweep Woodrow Wilson into the White House. However, unlike the 1912 election, 2012 would see a genuine counterinsurgency against the Aglo-American oligarchy, restoring the “American system” not crippling it.
However, the British Empire’s motto dividi et impera, or “divide and conquer”, still remains an effective political tool in defending against such an upsurge against the New World Order status-quo. Thumbing his nose at this historic gathering was CIA-lacky and drug warrior Bob Barr, a chameleon bouncing around the alternative media claiming a “pro-liberty agenda”. Barr is shameless. He voted for the Patriot Act. Now he wants our Constitution restored. Once a member of the “Task Force for a Drug-Free America”, Barr called for the design of a “WWII-style victory plan to save America’s children from illegal drugs.” Today, Barr calls the drug war a “failure”. Barr seems to function as a steam-valve for disaffected Republicans who would otherwise pose a threat. Syphoning as much as 6% of the vote in national polls, substantial efforts should be made among the activist and alternative media communities to discredit the Barr Campaign as not only a hinderance to progressing a potential unity agenda, but also as disingenuous to the cause of liberty.
