Tuesday: 82 Iraqis Killed, 136 Wounded

As heavy street fighting continues in Sadr City, Kirkuk suffered a spate of roadside bombings. Also, female suicide bombers staged attacks in Diyala province. At least 82 Iraqis were killed and another 136 were wounded across the country. No Coalition deaths were reported.

Gunmen in Sadr City ambushed a U.S. patrol on a road where barricades are being installed. U.S. forces said that 28 extremists were killed in that incident, while six more were killed separately. Hospital officials said that 24 people were killed and 60 more were wounded, most of them civilians. Six American soldiers were wounded. Overnight, one person was killed and 24 more were wounded in other clashes.

In Baghdad, a bomb was detonated outside the home of a senior labor ministry official; he was killed and two others were wounded. Two people were killed and five others were injured during a Katyusha attack in New Baghdad. Two people were injured during mortars in Kadhamiyah. Mortars injured three in Karadat Maryam. No casualties were reported during shelling in Karrada and Bab al-Sharji.

A female suicide bomber killed two Awakening Council (Sahwa) members and wounded ten others in Baquba. Also, six gunmen were detained.

In al-Saldiya, a female suicide bomber injured five people, including the district chief.

In Kirkuk, a roadside bomb wounded nine people, including Iraqi soldiers, in western Kirkuk. Seven were wounded during a bombing in southern Kirkuk. Two policemen were wounded in a separate roadside bombing in central Kirkuk. Two bodies were found outside of town. Also, an ethnic Turkman was freed, and his kidnappers were arrested.

In Mosul, an Iraqi soldier was killed and five more were wounded as they were thwarting a suicide bomber. Gunmen killed one policeman and injured two civilians.

Gunmen killed three civilians in Jalawla.

Gunmen killed two civilians near Muqdadiyah.

Three Iraqi soldiers were injured during a roadside bombing in Balad Ruz. Six bodies were found in a mass grave.

Meanwhile, surveys of Iraqi refugees in Syria show that few are willing to return to Iraq. Also, reports of domestic violence among refugees in Jordan are on the rise, as their situation grows dimmer.
